Our Commitment to Reducing Emissions

We are committed to a 65% intensity reduction target (42% absolute reduction target) for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, consistent with the 1.5 °C pathway identified in the Paris Agreement

Reducing operational emissions

We intend to meet our Scope 1 and 2 targets through energy reduction opportunities, operational efficiencies and renewable energy strategies across our sites.

Implementing energy audits and optimizations

We’re auditing electricity and gas use at Corteva to cut emissions. For example, at our Harbor Beach site in Michigan, U.S., electricity and gas use audits have identified potential energy savings of 10-15%. As a result, we are planning several projects that have the potential to save an estimated 10,000 tons of GHG emissions each year. These range from optimizing steam and process air use to installing control valves and variable frequency drives on select pumps.

Increasing our use of renewable energy

We’re selecting sites for solar panel installations and working with local partners that will provide power directly to each site through power purchase agreements. We aim to cut 25,000 tons of CO2e by 2030, reducing our seed operations’ Scope 2 footprint by 25%.

Purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates

Purchasing high quality Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) is an important part of our Scope 2 reduction strategy.

Helping farmers reduce on-farm emissions

While we’ve made a commitment to do our part in reducing our GHG emissions, our biggest impact will come from developing the next generation of seed and crop protection solutions that allow farmers to reduce emissions in their operations.

Reklemel™ active: protecting crops and our planet through innovation

Our latest advancement in crop protection, Reklemel™ active, helps farmers increase yields, meet climate and other challenges, and ultimately strengthen global food security.

It earned EPA’s Reduced Risk status for its targeted action against nematodes and lower application rates, offering a better environmental profile than older products. It’s recognized with the National Association of Manufacturers’ Sustainability and Circular Economy Award and could help avoid approximately 500 million kg of CO2-equivalent emissions over five years.
